If Rhino Shield is not paint, then what is it?

Rhino Shield is a ceramic elastomeric coating. It looks just like house paint and you can also tint it to any color that you wish. Why choose Rhino Shield over traditional paint?

Better ingredients make a better product. Our elastomeric, ceramic-based paints are environmentally friendly and reduce the need to frequently repaint your home. Rhino Shield products have been tested and proven to help provide water resistance, help prevent the growth of mold and mildew, and help reduce energy consumption in your home due to its high solar reflective index. Rhino Shield is also a breathable product allowing natural water vapors to escape thus preventing coating breakdown. And it comes with a 25 year warranty against cracking, chipping, or peeling.

Are Rhino Shield dealers owned by Rhino Shield?

No. Rhino Shield dealers are independently owned and operated contractors with (exclusive territories to market and install Rhino Shield. They are not agents, franchisees, or employees of Rhino Shield. While Rhino Shield dealers typically have excellent painting contractor credentials in their market, you should interview the prospective contractor and make your own decision as to their suitability for your project. References are available and encouraged by any Rhino Shield dealer upon request.


Uses

What surfaces may Rhino Shield be used on?

Rhino Shield may be used on virtually any surface including wood, stucco, Hardie Plank®, brick, block, vinyl, and metal. To see previous projects, please view our gallery.

I have vinyl siding, can Rhino Shield be used to cover it?

Yes, Rhino Shield can be applied to vinyl siding depending upon the gauge. It is recommended you select a lighter color since very dark colors can possibly cause buckling or warping of the siding depending upon sun exposure.

Can I use Rhino Shield on my boat or vehicle?

No. Rhino Shield is designed to be applied to the exterior or interior of homes or buildings. Our industrial line of products may be used for more specialty applications but these structures need to be rigid and non-moving.

Can Rhino Shield be used on interior walls or roofs?

No, it is for exterior walls only. However, we do have an interior ceramic wall system called Nature's Cote that is perfect for interior needs. We also offer a separate product called Super Shield for commercial and residential roof applications.

Will Rhino Shield ceramic coating prevent rust?

Not by itself. However, we offer several proven and industry leading rust inhibitor primers that can be used with Rhino Shield ceramic coating to help withstand the challenges of rust proofing. Aggressive preparation work is the key and our Rhino Shield dealers are trained on how to handle such situations.

Can Rhino Shield be used on historical homes or buildings?

Can Rhino Shield be used on wood decks?

Rhino Shield is not suitable for wood or pool decks.

Can Rhino Shield be Used on log homes?

It is not recommended to use Rhino Shield on log homes.


Appearance

What does Rhino Shield look like? How is it applied?

It looks much like a rich latex paint except it is slightly thicker in viscosity. It will, however, maintain the look and textural characteristics of your building material. It is typically sprayed using professional paint spraying equipment. It can also be rolled or brushed if necessary.

What colors are available?

Rhino Shield ceramic coating can be tinted to virtually any color using high grade paint tints. See our Explore Colors page for more details.

Can I change the color later?

Yes. Rhino Shield can be recoated again with the Durable Finish Coat if necessary.


Cost and Warranty

How does the 25 year warranty program work?

All warranties are issued by the independent Rhino Shield dealers. You will be issued an authorized Rhino Shield warranty by the local dealer upon job completion. There is a labor and a product aspect to each warranty. The policy regarding any labor required for a valid warranty claim is set by the local dealer independent of Rhino Shield. Any replacement product required for a valid warranty claim is provided by Rhino Shield as product supplier via the local dealer or directly to the customer if necessary. Rhino Shield is not responsible for service labor.

How long does Rhino Shield last?

Our Rhino Shield two-coat system carries a twenty-five year warranty against cracking, chipping and peeling. The warranty is issued by your local dealer and can be transferred to a subsequent owner if properly re-registered with that dealer.

How can you be sure Rhino Shield will last 25 years?

Our independent testing results (see Testing Results), particularly accelerated aging tests, have confirmed that Rhino Shield, when properly applied, will not crack, chip, or peel for up to 25 years.

Is Rhino Shield expensive?

Rhino Shield is typically more expensive than a traditional paint job. This is mostly due to Rhino Shield providing an 8 to 10 times thicker coating than paint and typically spending much more time on home preparation. How much does Rhino Shield cost?

All Rhino Shield applications are performed by our independent Dealer Network. Each installation will vary on price due to your home and business' particular needs including amount of preparation required. Can I purchase Rhino Shield directly and apply myself or use my local paint contractor?

No. The Rhino Shield system must be installed by a Rhino Shield dealer applicator. They have received extensive training on how to prepare a building for Rhino Shield and also how to apply the product correctly.

Can my warranty be transferred to the next owner?

Absolutely. This helps increase the value of your home. Just make sure the transfer procedures noted in your warranty paperwork are followed.

What if I have a warranty or service question?

Just contact your local Rhino Shield dealer. They will handle any questions you may have and initiate a service request should that be necessary. Our dealers pride themselves on attention to after the sale service.


Installation and Maintenance

Does Rhino Shield required any ongoing maintenance after installation?

To protect your Rhino Shield investment, it is recommended that you perform annual cleaning maintenance. This will not only keep your home looking beautiful but also help your Rhino Shield system remain free of harmful airborne dirt and microorganism growth. We recommend cleaning your walls annually to remove surface dirt and stains according to the maintenance instructions provided to you by your local dealer.

Will you replace rotten or failing wood on my house?

It is imperative that Rhino Shield be applied to acceptable condition wood. Your applicator will repair or patch wood if possible but never to the point where it will cause the system to fail over time. If it is determined any wood must be replaced, the problem areas needing replacement would be highlighted and you will be provided a quote for wood replacement as part of the estimation process. .

I have small cracks in my stucco. Will Rhino Shield fill in these cracks?

Rhino Shield will naturally fill small stucco cracks (1/16” or smaller) using the two-step process. Larger cracks may require an application of a stucco patch prior to applying the Rhino Shield system. Once applied, Rhino Shield will help reduce future cracking due to the bonding properties of the adhesive primer and the ceramic finish.

I wish to paint my home but desire to keep the natural look of wood. Does Rhino Shield have a clear product that may provide the same benefits as the original?

Yes! We offer our state of the art Protect Stain & Sealer provides a clear finish option. Protect Stain is a beautiful long-lasting clear coat sealer that rejuvenates old surfaces, protects, and provides water repellency. Protect Stain prevents water intrusion by sheeting and sealing off water using state-of-the-art micronized silicone additive thus reducing the environment for mold, mildew, and algae formation.
